There are a number of timetable changes happening.
Mostly affecting Moffat & Williamson.
And mostly affecting services in the Glenrothes, Perth, St Andrews triangle.
Changes to the Stagecoach 65 that runs between St Andrews and Perth via Newburgh are mostly relatively minor timetable adjustments.
Except - the route is now operated out of St Andrews rather than Perth - so first buses tend to depart St Andrews and last buses tend to return to St Andrews - which means that if you’re travelling early or late in the day you need to take particular note.
The Sunday timetable changes most:
The 95 bus from Crail at 07:55 leaves you waiting 50 minutes in St Andrews for the 65 at 09:15, but 95 departures at 10:40, 12:40, 14:40 and 16:40 only give you 5 minutes spare when connecting with the 65.
On the return journey:
The 65 tends to arrive in St Andrews just after the 95 left at 35 minutes past the hour - perhaps the best connections are on the 17:05 and 19:05 departures from Perth with connections reaching Crail at 19:35 and 21:30 respectively:
The Moffat & Williamson 64 also has some major changes:
The 64 route through St Andrews is simplified to run in both directions along Largo Road/City Road with the nominal terminus being moved to outside the Students Union on St Mary’s Place. From there the bus turns left on Greyfriars Garden, left again on North Street and left again at the roundabout to return to City Road.
The 64 NO LONGER STOPS near the Byre Theatre, or on South Street or Market Street in St Andrews!
Also, as you see from the timetable extract, the timing no longer suits a quick change from the 95 - instead you are likely to need to wait some time in St Andrews between buses - perhaps taking a coffee break in the Rector’s Cafe by the Students Union bus stop?
The changed timetable does mean that the 64 now visits Giffordtown approximately every 2 hours:
And about a mile north of Giffordtown just before Birnie & Gaddon Lochs is Fife Zoo.
An example trip would take the 95 around 08:49 from Crail getting to St Andrews at 09:21 for a wander around before catching the 64 at 10:05 passing through Giffordtown at 11:30 - ask the driver to set you down outside Fife Zoo a couple of minutes later.
Visit the zoo, have lunch at the cafe, perhaps have a walk round Birnie & Gaddon lochs and be out on the roadside for 13:25 or 16:00 to wave down the 64 for St Andrews:
Beware that if you arrive in St Andrews at 17:35 you are likely to have just missed the departure of the 95 at 17:30 - so you might need to spend even more time in St Andrews.
You could alternatively get off that 64 in Cupar on West Port, Bonnygate or Crossgate and wait for the following Stagecoach 65 bus which should get you to St Andrews Bus Station for 17:22 - in time to catch the 95 at 17:30.
We have a tip for what to do if you miss the 95 at 17:30 on weekdays:
If you miss the 95 from St Andrews at 17:30...
Recently I ended up on the X24 that’s due to arrive in St Andrews at 17:30 with a slight hope that I would be able to catch the 95 due to depart also at 17:30…

It may be that you need to turn your bus trip into a Mystery Tour - the mystery being which bus you decide to catch next…
