Ember are a Dundee based company who run electric buses between Dundee and either Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Visit their website at: https://www.ember.to/
As of 11th January 2024 their service frequency is improving so that buses run approximately hourly on both these routes.
This has been made possible by moving their electric charge point to the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc on the east side of Dundee.
Buses to Glasgow and Edinburgh both now depart from the Dundee Science Centre on Greenmarket, round the side of Dundee Railway Station. The return buses arrive at the stop outside the Railway Station.
As far as Crail residents go, the potential of delays on the Tay Road Bridge mean that it’s probably not sensible to think about using Ember buses for going to Edinburgh or Glasgow - and instead follow the tips on our Quick Change Crib Sheets.
But if you are travelling from Glasgow and there are any problems with the Stagecoach X24 and X27 buses to Fife, then catching an Ember E3 from Buchanan Bus Station Stance 53 may well help you to get to Crail sooner… There are also services to Dundee from Glasgow with Megabus and Flixbus which may be useful.
One thing worth noting about Ember is that a lot of their stops are “on-demand” only, and you have to book your ticket through their website or App at least 10 minutes ahead if you want to ensure that the bus visits the stop:
