If you miss the 95 from St Andrews at 17:30...

...you CAN get to Crail faster than waiting for the next 95 at 18:50...

Recently I ended up on the X24 that’s due to arrive in St Andrews at 17:30 with a slight hope that I would be able to catch the 95 due to depart also at 17:30…

It was a vain hope - the only reason I had managed to catch the X24 was that it was already running 10 minutes late and it didn’t get into St Andrews until 17:41:

The 95 had already left only a minute late at 17:31:

The next 95 on a weekday isn’t until 18:50, so it can be a case of looking for somewhere for a meal in St Andrews, but there is a way to get back to Crail earlier.

The weekday X61 leaves St Andrews at 17:55:

Due to arrive at Anstruther Harbour at 18:15 where you can spend 15 minutes looking around Anstruther before the next 95 to Crail - which even goes round Pinkerton Road:

Getting you there for 18:49 - when the following 95 from St Andrews at 18:50 would only get you to Crail High Street at 19:15…

It’s worth checking your “live bus map” before catching the X61 to make sure the 95 you want is running, but otherwise this is a handy trick to get you home 25 minutes earlier than otherwise expected.

The X61 only runs at this time Monday to Fridays, so don’t expect the trick to work on Saturday or Sunday…
