Trains return to Leven from Sunday 2nd June 2024 and there is a promise that funding has been secured to improve connections with local buses.
See https://levenmouthreconnected.fife.scot/news/articles/funding-secured-for-new-and-improved-levenmouth-bus-services for the full story. Where it is suggested that the 95 will have new Monday to Saturday early morning journeys and a Sunday evening journey between Anstruther - St Monans – Elie - Upper Largo - Lower Largo - Lundin Links to Leven Bus Station. And, new morning journeys, and one late night journey from Leven.
But, as yet there is no news from Stagecoach on the changes to the 95 timetable.
It’s possible that Stagecoach are waiting for the usual annual timetable change which takes place during the school holidays, and is normally designed to cope with any changes to school journey requirements.
As the train between Edinburgh and Leven is a stopping service it is also quite likely that it will still be faster to travel via Leuchars train station and use the frequent 99 bus service between there and St Andrews to get to and from Crail rather than travel via Leven.
If you have a car available for the local part of the journey you may be torn between parking at Leuchars, Cupar or Leven - the car park at Leven will be free which may be an attraction…
We are currently recommending that you use Traveline Scotland to plan your journey, as this service will compare alternative routes, will deal with the exact start and end points of your journey, and may know about any bus timetable changes before we do: https://www.travelinescotland.com/lts/#/travelInfo
Assuming that the 95 timetable doesn’t change much then weekday and Saturday mid-morning and evening buses to Leven that typically get to Leven between 5 and 15 minutes past the hour connect reasonably with the trains - and trains from Edinburgh from 17:01 onwards connect reasonably with the 95 from Leven.
But trains on Sunday don’t connect well at all, and connections with the X58 and X60 are generally not good either.
